TEHRAN (IQNA) – If someone chooses divorce, it would be ok legally, but he is committing a sin morally speaking.

Divorce

The Holy Quran has discussed this issue both in theory and in legislation, according to Mohammad Reza Jabarran. The faculty member of the Islamic Culture and Thought Research Center talked about the Quran’s view on divorce during a session. Following are excerpts from his remarks:

In the field of values, the society has reduced its dependence on religion, beliefs and spirituality. Communal relations have also been on decline and the society is moving toward materialism and individualism.

Moral values and norms are changing and today’s humanity, instead of opting for self-sacrifice, patience and tolerance and an idealistic view of the future, only seeks to fulfil his desires and pursues his own interests.

Divorce among couples has turned into a value in today’s society and is becoming known as a lifestyle one can choose whereas it was not so common in our culture and elsewhere in the world in the past.

Nowadays, many of the functions of the family have been given to other institutions like schools. Under the influence of modern lifestyle, the necessity of family life has been undermined.

As a result of all of these developments, divorce has turned into a style of life and choosing it has become much easier and more accessible than before.

The Holy Quran has offered a very proper solution to this problem. Divorce in social sciences has a different definition from that in law. It is said that divorce is an institutionalized method to end marriage under the supervision of social organizations.

So it has two features, one that it has become institutional and the other is that divorce is under the supervision of social organizations.

Many people consider couples rightful to choose divorce and instead of trying to dissuade them from taking such a step, accompany them on that path. So the modern society is facing such problems. However, in the Islamic thought, which is based on the Quran, divorce is not a style of life but is an emergency way for resolving problems in life. If someone chooses divorce, it would not be a problem from the legal point of view but it would be a sin morally.

The Holy Quran has discussed this issue both in theory and in legislation. The origin of marriage is divine, according to the Quran that says human society needs marriage.
